Thank you!
Students at Fallon Park Elementary school share thanks with Food and Nutrition Employees for preparing their favorite foods.  Kids comment appreciation for hard work and rave about popcorn chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches.
The Department of Food and Nutrition Recognizes Professionals who Promote Healthy Meals
Preparing healthy school meals, offering a friendly greeting and encouraging healthy nutrition habits are all in a day’s work for Roanoke City school nutrition employees. The week of May 7-11 is an opportunity for parents, students and school staffs to thank those individuals who help provide breakfast and lunch every day.
School nutrition employees follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools. They are trained sanitation and food safety experts and must manage financially self-sufficient programs despite limited funds to prepare and serve each meal. School nutrition members use their creativity to make the cafeteria a fun and welcoming place all year long and perform their jobs each day because they care passionately about the children they serve.
The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is one of the most important and nutrient-rich meals of their day. Children depend upon school lunch for 1/3 to 1/2 of their daily nutritional intake.
“Thank you!” to the school nutrition professionals in Roanoke City for their outstanding work providing healthy, nutritious meals to children every school day.

If walls could talk...
The walls of Preston Park's cafeteria boast beautiful pieces of artwork from a recent art competition. Art teacher, Ms. Day held the competition for 1st grade students.  Nutrition Staff members Heather, Koren, and Evelyn assisted in judging.  The winners received a certificate and a healthy treat. Their pictures were laminated and placed on the cafeteria bulletin board.  Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all for participation!
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
Free and Reduced Meal Applications must be updated each year.  Last year's application will expire October 10, 2011.  Please send an updated form to your child's school to avoid charges to your student's account.  Forms are available on our website.  Please see policy for charging meals or call the Nutrition Office for more information.
Lunch Accounts
Add money to your student's lunch account online.  Visit Cafe Prepay.  Payments may take up to 24 hours to update a student's account balance.
